Mount Nelson Hotel

Government Avenue ends opposite the impressive gateway to the Mount Nelson Hotel, complete with two pith-helmeted gatekeepers. The Nellie, as it's known, was erected in 1899 to welcome the Prince of Wales on his visit to the Cape and today remains one of Cape Town's most fashionable and genteel social venues. Don't miss the legendary high tea. Served from 2:30 to 5:30, the pastry selection can tempt even the most jaded palate, and the savory treats make for a scrumptious meal. Just great.
