TRAVEL TIPS

Getting Here and Around

To reach Vasilievsky Island, from the Admiralty, cross Dvortsovy most (Palace Bridge), which starts between the Admiralty and the Hermitage. The bridge takes you to the island's end, near the island's easternmost tip, called Strelka ("arrow"). It's here that the Neva River splits into two parts, on either side of the island. As you stand in ploshchad Birzhevaya, as the park on the Strelka is called, you'll be between two thick, brick-red columns, known as the Rostral Columns, and have a magnificent view of the city's major sights.
